Specialize in community health — featured courses

The 42-credit MPH online program places a focus on community health. The curriculum prepares learners to serve people in their community through online classes, experiential learning, and partnerships with public health organizations. Featured MPH@Baylor courses include:

Public Health Concepts in Epidemiology: Learn traditional and newepidemiologic concepts through theory and practice. Topics include historical foundations, data sources, study design, and the role of statistics in epidemiology.
Fundamentals of Environmental Health Science: Explore the environmental factors that affect the health and safety of a human community; and learn public health strategies, rooted in sustainability, that help mitigate environmental risks.
Determinants of Health and Health Equity: Assess health disparities and inequities in the U.S., based on the social determinants of health, and learn how to approach public health practice by focusing on equity and the root causes of health outcomes.
Global Health: Examine health systems across and within countries, including the social, economic, cultural, and political forces — and their influence on health outcomes.

Experiential learning opportunities

The MPH@Baylor program prepares learners for real-world public health service by offering opportunities to engage in community service and research.

Immersion: Learners attend a weekend-long, on-campus immersion experience, during which they network with faculty and classmates, hear from keynote speakers, visit local family health centers, and begin work on their graduate projects.

Practicum (optional): Learners can complete a 200-hour practicum in their community, and have the opportunity to apply classroom learnings directly in the field. This experience counts as a 3-credit elective course.

Graduate project: Near the end of the program, learners complete a 250-hour internship with a local organization as a culminating graduate project. The goal of the graduate project is to apply competencies and knowledge gained during online classes to a real-world scenario in a public or community-based setting.
